I was just wondering about the whole money issue. How many of you saved up all the money you wanted to (or had to) spend on your trip before you left? Or did you not have it all saved up and just went?

Honesty, if you don't have a working visa and speak the language where you have that visa, you can pretty much bank on not making a cent while you are travelling. It's pretty much near impossible to work under the table.
If you don't have all the money saved up, you will just end up coming home when the money runs out. (Have had several friends have to come home after a few weeks!)

I think what JR meant was travelling on credit and paying back after coming back home.

Ouch!! the interest they charge is usurious!! you'd end up paying several times what the trip actually costs. I think what JR meant was travelling on credit and paying back after coming back home.

I would wait until I had the money saved up. If you're having trouble saving the money, you will have trouble paying it off when you get back, and then you can forget about saving for the next trip for a while! You will get addicted to traveling! Try to find ways to get yourself to save more, like eating out less, putting the money in a separate savings account, etc. Also, try to change your budget to survive on less money, if it's not already as low as possible. Consider going further East (cheaper) and traveling off-season (cheaper airfare).
