Okay, I'll admit it, I have been spoiled in a way. Today's rate is $1.215 to 1 euro! Yikes! My $400 per week hotel in Florence just became nearly $500, and the same with Venice and Rome. Having a 'low value' currency surely sucks. ;D Thank goodness I am not going back to UK this year!! ;D The pound vs dollar is really scary right now! ging

it's getting worse. or, better, depending on your point of view. US$1.26 per Euro. this will make Europe travel on the cheap neigh impossible for us Americans. but, it will make US made goods much more competitive. Maybe Cat will come visit us? My Spring trip is getting more and more expensive as time moves on, that's for sure. - d

There is a lot to see in the US. My daughter and I just visited San Diego and Anaheim. The latter has Disneyland, which is after all an American icon and institution. But San Diego really does have a long history, lots of museums, interesting Spanish architecture, old missions, and lots to see and do generally. I even saw some late-medieval and Renaissance Italian art. I went on a walking tour which gave a lot of information about European settlement in the region and the history of the area. And if you want to practice your Spanish skills, you can do so (I was too shy to try).

You poor Americans/Canadians... ;D David, I might even go ahead and visit the States in the near future. With the dollar THAT low (imo!) it's getting cheaper by the minute! But looking at all the travel plans on this board, not everyone is discouraged by the current rates. Cat

was just reading on economist.com that Canada is having problems right now with the loonie being too strong. which means Canadian goods are more expensive in the US, so Canadian goods are losing maket share here. so, it really *does* seem to be that the greenback is the one that's falling! try the canadian dollar, hehehe! We all know how you're feeling!

from a forex standpoint, it's best to have a balance in the value of the dollar, loonie or greenback. when values get out of balance, it's a problem for all. - d well well, for once we have a good dollar, we're loosing because of it! arghhhh!
