I stopped by my credit union today to get my checking account all squared away and they told me some nice tidbits. They said their ATM service is only good in hte centrial Florida area and that my card MIGHT work in europe but not sure. Then I aked about my Debit card and since its a Visa Sponsored card, that draws from my checking also.they said i can use it anywhere vis is accepted.Do ATMs take thoes kinds of cards? Would that be good enuf to take with me or does it need to be an ATM card.Since they arnt sure if my card will work in europe Should I open an account at a bank that I know does have atm access overseas right before I go so im sure to be able to get to my money or should i risk taking a debit card?

I'm a bit confused but think it is merely semantics. My 'debit' card which I just as often call my ATM card has the Visa logo on it but draws from my checking. I have used it everywhere without a problem. Not sure what you mean......what is the difference at your bank between an ATM card and a debit card? As long as it is affiliated with Visa or MC you should not have a problem with it.....as long as you have a four digit PIN that is. BTW...have you ever used that card in any machine other than one of theirs? Like another banks machine or in a gas pump? If it works there, again, you should have no troubles. And regards my own banks 'ATM' service...well obviously I did not find any Compass banks in Italy.....wink.....but still my Compass Banks card worked just fine.

Sorry about the semantics, some times when im thinking and when it come out it gets a little garbled (dislexia lol). My ATM card works only in ATMs that support my atm card but my debit card will work in ATMs only if it has the visa logo,so I guess my main question was, do all ATMs(or most) have the visa logo meaning I can withdraw with my debit card.

Yep! You'll have to work hard to find one that does not. ;D (Where in central Florida are you? I am in Jacksonville. And haven't we been having the most glorious weather lately? )

have a really good friend whose parents live in Leesburg...I know right where you are. This few weeks of the year are the best Florida has to offer indeed. Warm, no humidity, always a breeze.....give it another month and I'll be moaning about how hot and sticky it is! ;D
