Just thought I would share this great tip I read yesterday on how to save on the costs of withdrawing money from ATMs, it's called the "Banking Buddy" If you are travelling with at least one other person, you can take turns withdrawing money. If one person takes out 300 euros (for example), then you split that between the two of you. Then next time, the other person takes out 300 euros and do the same thing. This way, you'll both have money, but you'll only be charged half the bank/ATM fees that if you would if you were to both take out money at the same time! Don't know if anyone has already thought of this, but I thought it was a great idea!!

Good tip Michelle....and at the risk of sounding 'testy' I have to say again that maybe I just have a few good banks but I have never been charged a ATM fee. 'Conversion' fees, yes, for the changing of dollars to euros or pounds or whatever, but a 'usage' fee for the machine, no. And that said, the conversion fee you get from a machine is hands down the lowest possible...lower than banks overseas, credit cards, currency exchanges, travelers checks...whatever. I have yet to find anything that is cheaper to the traveler than using the machines.
