K I leave in 6 days and yesterday I talked to my nieghbor who has gone on several trips to Europe largely the same countries that I'm going to be visiting and she said that she spent normaly around $20 a day. I've been gathering from almost every else that $50 is a small budget. She said the expense was about $10 day for room then the rest was food/addmission fees. Im really wondering about the feasability of what she said.

I haven't been to Europe myself, but that seems kinda far fetched & from what I've read here I think most people would agree. What countires are you going to? Are you planning on going sightseeing? What do you planning on eating? I would stick with $50 & if you can go less then that then great. But at least you have a good chunk of money & you won't have to worry. I'd imagine trying to buget with only $20 could becaome pretty stressfull. Anyways that's just my two cents

There used to be a book called "Europe on $5 per Day". However, that was from the 1950s (possibly early 60s). So a key point is - when did your neighbor travel? Also, the exchange rate is worse right now for Americans. Press her for more details as to where she stayed - I bet you will find the same spots, if available, have at least tripled in price.

Really far fetched unless you are in Eastern Europe. Some places like Spain and Portugal are cheaper but the rest are really pricey.
$50 a day is sort of the bottom of the budget, the very least.. One way you can look into this is to take a look at various hostels and what they charge.
For example, here are some approximate rates for popular hostels in different places in the summer:
Beehive Hostel, Rome Italy: Dorm room 20 Euros ($24 US)
Generator Hostel, London, England. Dorm room, 14 beds: 12 pounds ($22 US)
Ashlee House, Dublin, Ireland. Dorm room 15 pounds ($27 US)
Barbieri Hostel, Madrid, Spain. Dorm room, 8 beds. 14 Euro ($17 US)
Backpackers Villa, Interlaken, Switzerland. Dorm room 6-7 beds, 21 Euros ($25 US)
Stayokay HI Hostel, Amsterdam, Netherlands. Dorm room, $28 US.
As you can see, besides the $17 in Madrid, not one of those are even close to $10 a night. I just picked random hostels/places to give you an idea.

Well, she's probably telling the truth, only she travelled years ago!

Especially considering $20 is worth what?....about 16 euros these days! Not sure how long since she traveled, but unless one is sleeping in the train station or park and eating bread can't imagine this is doable any longer.
