I just got back from a 8-day trip to Turkey and discovered that people now are very willing to accept the euro instead of their own turkish Lira. Ofcourse this is related to the recent EU membership of Turkye. Quite a difference to 2 years ago, when I visited Istanbul and the euro was only accepted with a very bad ' exchange rate'. I regret I didn't bring more euro's on my trip (I live in the Netherlands), because now I almost ended up getting euro's from an exchange office. So anyone visiting Turkey, no problem if you haven't used up all your euro's, you can use them quite easily over there. Just keep an eye on the exchange rate, there always will be people who want to take advantage of your lack of knowledge of the proper exchange rates. Cat

People in Turkey will generally accept most hard currencies, although the Euro is definately the best one to use over there. BTW I don't know what you mean about the recent EU membership of Turkey- Turkey aren't in the EU, in fact they are only at the very, very early stages of negotiating EU membership. This is due to their atrocious human rights record and other factors.

You are absolutely right! I think I'm getting a bit confused by all the other countries that have joined the EU recently. Turkey needs to set a lot of things straight before they can join. Cat
