Hey Guys. I am almost giving up of my dreamed trip to Europe, what I was planing for the beginning of the next year . I was thinking in visit Paris, Florence, ROme, Venice, and maybe a few more cities, but I think it will be a little more expensive than I thought. My girlfriend and I were thining in a 100 Euros trip (for both - 50E each) for transportation, doublerooms in nice hostels/hotels, museum tickets, and food, but all I read in these posts are scaring me! My friend went to Europe long time ago, but he was alone and told me 50 US Dollars was plenty enough...I think costs raised up! Please help this unexperienced Brazilian traveler depart!
one doubt example: Is it cheaper buy an eurail saver pass, that would cost me 300 US dollars for 5 day travels to travel between those cities or buy directly there?
Is possible to pay 40 Euros for a doble room? So I would have 60 for the rest!
etc, etc
thanks mates.
At least I can say you can come to Brazil when your money gets short! 4 times cheaper - everything!
See ya

After my europe trip in August, I really want to go to Brazil. Everytime I tell my friends that, they warn me about kidnappings and such..... is this prevalent in Brazil?

I haven't heard of kidnappings so much as just plain old violent crime. I associate kidnappings with other South American countries. I would suggest posting on the Lonely Planet forum, though, as someone there undoubtably has personal and current knowledge. thorntree.lonelyplanet.com

do you have to stay in double room hostels? cause you can save money by tough'n it out in larger dorm like rooms. thats what me and my boyfriend are doing. plus were also going to paris, rome and venice and found that its cheaper to buy point-point tickets if you know how long your staying in each country. plus if you purchase train tickets in italy from trenitalia.com you might find it cheaper. also, why dont you look into museum passes, that might save you money. and if you pack alot of your own food and plan on 20$ a day that could save you money. and one last thing is that if your student or under26 you can discounts on almost everthing! im not an expert or anything but thats what my boyfriend and i are doing and it saved us alot of money! especially on the rail passes!

in italy you have to be an EU citizen to get most of the student discounts....

CIAO!
I am here in Italy and I can recommend some things. First, double rooms are usually 50 euros a night. Really, it is worth it as one girl recommended to go dorm style! really, there is nothing wrong with that! I stayed in hostels in Northern Italy, Florence (the one on the outskirts of town IS really nice!) and southern italy. All that it is, is usually a private bathroom. In Florence, our 'double room' was more like a room for 4 w/bathroom to the two of us. I would opt for the dorms, you will meet some very interesting people travelling such as yourself there!
I would also recommend trenoitalia. They are often offering last minute deals, especially to bigger cities. I dont know about that rail pass! That is a LOT of money. But depends also!
There are some discount stores here in italy that you can find to get cheap stuff for sandwhiches on those days of not going 'fancy'. Everything is in courses in Italy unless you go for a fixed menu which you are sure to find in tourist areas. But for day travelling, find some stores, bread and sandwhich stuff, and the likes will save you money too.
When in Florence I was incredibly surprised at the prices of the museums. Being from San Francisco, CALIF, I thought they would be so much more! They really arent. Under 10 euros, some of the best ones. I think to see 'David' in Florence was like 6 euros. And to see the Uffizi in Florence was 9 and that was to avoid the lines out the door. GET YOUR TICKETS IN ADVANCE. That can be as simple as going to where you want to go when you first get there and asking availability. If you go the day you want to go, we waited in line to see David for a good hour and a half, 2 hours. Took us all of 40 minutes to see everything!
That is just my suggestions for Italy. Enjoy!

That David in the Galleria dell'Accademia is the original which had stood outside. there's a copy standing where that original was. The Uffizi Gallery is the more impressive museum in Florence, imho. but, i never made it inside the Piti Palace. If you go the day you want to go, we waited in line to see David for a good hour and a half, 2 hours. Took us all of 40 minutes to see everything!
