I was planning a trip to Europe for 3 months in the Summer of 2006. However, due to changes in my graduation schedule...I have had to change that. I am now planning a 4 month trip to Europe summer of 2007. I will be able to save more money for that trip. However, I am wondering if you think that the $75-100 per day budget will still be accurate (excluding rail pass and airfair)? I was planning on saving $100 for 127 days and just round up to $13,000 USD for my 4 month trip. Do you think that will be a sufficient amount of money?
I hope I am making sense

Kristi, Yep, you are making sense. But I think it is impossible today to know what the costs might be 15 months or more from now. The members on this board, a fairly well traveled bunch, generally agree on $75-100 for a somewhat 'comfortable' trip. Many spend more, even more can often do it for less. So much depends on your particular travel style and 'comfort' level. Eg....I 'need' a door to close at night so am not a hostel fan and my lodging costs run higher. You may delight in a very nice dinner each evening which ups your daily cost. Overall, I would say keep a close eye on travel reports, rate of inflation, if any, watch airline prices as increases there can signal increases everywhere and just generally figure the $100 mark will still suffice but be prepared for increases. And BTW....welcome to the board! ging

a bigger concern than inflation would be dollar devaluation. if the dollar takes a dive, travel in eurozone would become more dear. conversely, if the euro takes a dive, travel there would be cheaper. i don't expect either of these to happen. but my crystal ball gets cloudy at times.

You are correct, as ever, David! Didn't even think about the $ value. I am old enough that I still live in my mind in that world where the US$ was king. If you had dollars...well then, that was about it back then. Things have surely changed and one needs to carefully monitor the dollar vs (insert any currency here) matters a good deal! ging

Well...not to get into a 'wonderful you, wonderful me, wonderful us' fest here..... Your advice and information I find to usually be ever spot on and correct. And you have a bad habit (!) of pulling me up short and reminding me of another POV I have missed. I will miss our 'conversations'. You keep things honest 'round here, ya hear? ;D ging

much of the good stuff i say is merely passing along what i've leaned from the seasoned travelers on this list. when i delve into original material, i can get myself in trouble. Your advice and information I find to usually be ever spot on and correct.
