Hi, Just wondering if it matters what type of account you have when in Europe? I have only a savings account with my bank, will that be suffice? Also, I have a 4 digit pin. I have heard different things about the pin so I want to make sure that I will be safe with the 4 digit pin. Also a 4 digit pin for my visa for cash advances, is that okay? Any info will help, Thanks, Tiffany

it's probably best to ask your bank. you will need an account that can let you withdraw from cash machines in europe
maestro cards are accepted at a lot of cash machines across europe, as are visa and mastercard, although the latter will cost more for cash withdrawals

Also a 4 digit pin for my visa for cash advances, is that okay? sorry to be so late on this. "cash advances" are not good. the fees/ usurious effective interest rates with this are outrageous! if you can get some other way to finance your trip, something besides credit card debt, you will come out way ahead. - d

Checking accounts are the best, in my opinion. Use your debit card with a 4-digit number to withdraw money from that one. Saving accounts are not a good idea. Europeans typically don't have the ability to withdraw money from ATM that are linked to their savings account.
Don't use your credit cards. The cash advance charges are incredibly high.
Check with your bank's website to see if it has European partners (i.e. Barclay's, etc) that could save you money on the ATM fees. If not, I'd just suck up the fees and withdraw money every couple of days (usually once per city).
