Just wanted you guys to know that Wombats has opened a brand new hostel in Munich. They have 4, 6 and 8 person dorms as well as private rooms and their hostel was voted the CLEANEST HOSTEL WORLDWIDE 2004 by the users of Hostelworld. (And you know how important cleanliness is in a hostel to me!!) There is no curfew or lockout, all the dorms are ensuite, and they have all the facilities you would need - a pub, laundry, internet, 24 hour check-in, lockers etc. You know I rarely promote hostels on these boards but I really think this is one you should check out when you are in Munich. reservations.bookhostels.com/guideforeurope.com/hostel.php?HostelNumber=8249Kim

Are they linked to the Wombats in Vienna? If so it's definitely worth looking at.

Hi Keli,
This only applies to the HI-affiliated hostels. They work on a non-profit basis, don´t have to pay taxes and get subsidies from the Bavarian government for doing youth work. Those are tied to the enforcement of an age limit - that is supposed to make sure that the HI hostels don´t have an unfair competitive advantage on the regular market. Hence, Munich´s two HI hostels are targeted primarily towards school groups. They only fill up with backpackers during the school holidays in July and August when there are no kiddies around.
All other hostels in Munich (including us) are privately run (like any other hotel) so there´s no need for stupid rules like age limits or curfews.
Happy travels,
Klaus
