I enjoyed hostel Sokol www.sokol-cos.cz/index_en.htmclose by the prague castle and everythig else. People who work there are super nice! But the showers are (thou same sex) are communal (except for two). So be forw warned. Then again, I stayed at the Elf in Prague, it was communal as well

When you say a communal shower, do you mean something that is basically like what you get at a swimming pool or gym? I didn't like the sound of it, but I realize I put up with that when I go to those places, so perhaps it is not so bad as it sounds. I stayed at a hostel like that in San Francisco once - quite a shock to me when a Kiwi girl started casually chatting to me, as hostellers do, as I stepped out of the shower nude.

if you want a party hostel try the hostel elf in zizkov district.
Its near florenc bus station and isn't too bad- cheap beer but the beds did have bedbugs in them and the showers were pretty crap. Most people were too drunk to notice it though.
Also theres a trainline running behind it- so possibly not a great place to stay (even though I enjoyed it).

Communal shower is where you have the shower area 'block' and 3 shower heads for 3 people to stand under and there is nothing seperating the people. THere is a shower curtain so you dont get the floor wet, but your in the shower with other women (or men if your a guy.) That kind of thing does'nt faze me. I really dont care if im showering beside another women. Shes in there to get clean. Same as me.

I wanted a place where I could actually get some sleep so I booked into The Boathouse Hostel, it's on the bank of the Vltava. The reviews sounded great and I don't mind that it's a bit out of the city centre... it is still accessible by public transportation (even late at night). www.aa.cz/boathouse/My second choice was Hostel U Melounu, which is more central, but it is more expensive and didn't have beds available for some of the nights I'll be in Prague (end of May). According to the reviews I read on several different websites (including this one), both of these hostels sound like places where you can meet fellow travellers, but still get sleep at night. If you want a party hostel, The Golden Sickle sounds like it might be the place to be... but for a woman travelling alone, a hostel above an absinthe bar in an area well-known for prostitution just isn't for me. All of these seem to have individual shower stalls though you might have to wait a bit for one if you intend to shower at a popular time, and the reviewers mentioned the hostels were clean (as opposed to bedbugs and slime). I suggest typing these into the booking sites to read the reviews and see what you think.
