Hi
Just wondering if people think this is a feasible (short) Itinerary. It's mainly a chance to revisit, rather than visit, given that I will be coming back to Italy for two weeks in October 2007 with a friend who has never been before. (It is 20 years since I've been).
Jan 7 - train from Paris to La Spezia. Overnight La Spezia (I spent a number of months here in the past and just want to say "hello" to the rock I used to spend my days sitting on reading and enjoying the sunshine). I know its a long day trip on the train, but I can watch the world go by, which is fine by me! Jan 8 - La Spez to Naples, via Pisa. (Have to take a photo of the leaning tower for the kids). Overnight Napoli. Jan 9: Napoli - visit to Pompeii? Jan 10: Napoli - visit the old stomping ground (spent 6 months here and loved it!) Jan 11: early train from Napoli to Roma overnight Roma Jan 12: Roma Jan 13: Roma Jan 14: afternoon flight from Roma back to Sydney.
I would have liked to have got to Firenze, but given that I am travelling back in 10 months, I thought Tuscany would be a great place for a first timer to base ourselves for a week.
Any comments welcome!
Nad.

Nalf, it looks like it might be feasible, but it seems terribly rushed for a one week trip. My preference would be to drop the side trip to Pisa to take a photo of the leaning tower. Pisa is reasonably close to Firenze so you could always get the picture when you return in October.
You didn't indicate the total duration of your trip? Are you spending a few days in Paris before you travel to La Spezia? If not, that's a LOT of flight time for a one week trip!
Cheers!!!

It is a rushed trip - but I do have a week in Paris before heading to Italy. I have six weeks of annual leave available, but unfortunately, can't afford to take the kids with me and can only keep them occupied with grandparents, camp and godparents for just over two weeks - so taking out travel time, I am left with about 14 and a half days in Europe. It is a lot of flight time - but to be honest, I would have done it in less than 7 days if it meant that was all the time I could have!
