I posted here ages ago.. I guess I been thinking about europe alot lately.. think I go through phases..
At times I even thought of scrapping the idea, and going straight to uni, but when do you get the chance?
I'm not really sure about working there, I know I was enthusiastic, but as cliched as it sounds, if Im gone for too long, I'll miss my boyfriend, so I have given my about 3 months to travel... in about April-July
Just an idea is (think some places are wrong order)
Melb - Thailand (probably not the best destination at the moment!) or Asia somewhere for about a week - either before or after Europe.. England - London (4 days) Scotland - Glasgow (6 days) --day trips and family France - Paris (4 or 5 days) - Normandy area (3 days) -- friends casle Belgium - Bruxelles/Braine Le Comte -- friends (3 days) Germany - Rhine Valley (Koln), (3 days) - Berlin (4 days) - Munich (4 days) (day trips to surrounding areas) Czech Republic - Prague (4 days) (maybe 5 with day trip?) Poland - Krakow (3 days) Slovakia - Bratislava (3 days) Austria - Vienna - (3 days) Hungary - Budapest (3 days) Croatia - Dubrovnik (4 days) - Various islands (5 days) Slovenia - Bled (3 days) - Ljubjana (3 days) - Piran (3 days) Italy - Venice (2 days) - Bologna (2 days) - Rome (4 or 5 days) (inc day trip) - Florence (3 days) - Siena (2 days) - Cinque Terre (3 days) France - Nice (3 days) Spain - Barcelona (3 days) (already been previously)
Ok.. hows that? If you could give me improvements thatd be great thanks..

What can I say, after reading about it I thought it would sound like an interesting adventure! lol i think i like the fact that its.. different and unusual but also interesting.. travelling there might also be "interesting"!
In that case, should I bring with me a few blank CDs? Or would it be better to buy them there? I remember when I had to buy CDs last time they were rather over priced... and that was in Belgium...

I sort of asked this in a previous post, but I was wondering how hard it is to get pictures put onto CDs done in Eastern Europe.. I know most places have come a long way since the cold war, but just checking, because some countries I'm unsure about.. I'm planning on going to Poland, Hungary, Romania, Turkey, Albania, Serbia (pos.), Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia.. After reading that some countries (well Albania) dont even have ATMs, I was thinking that this might be and awkward activity.. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on this? Thanks

Thanks .. Yep typo! On top quality it seems to take photos at about 2 MB.. with a 512MB memory card it typically held about 347 top quality photos so I dont get it! lol... How much do CDs cost and is it difficult to do in places like Eastern Europe where it is harder to communicate? What is more logical, an IPOd (where I've read often crashes and is annoying,) or buying several memory cards? BTW Im Aussie thru and thru

I recently bought a new nice 6MP digital camera, and its great. What i was wondering, was that how many ememory cards should I b taking for a 10-11 week trip in Europe?
Id prefer to take memory cards as opposed to handfuls of prints.. it takes XP cards, so it fits more photos on it (or so im told)..
Thanks

I've planned alot of my Iitinerary however I havent figured out where exactly I want to go. I'll be going to Paris and Rouen but I'd really love to visit southern France for about 3 days, but the choices are overwhelming because I love french things!
My question is, where do you reccomend I spend my time? (I will be coming from Italy) Ty =)

Thanks for the rearrangement help David... I was unsure about it to begin with... Do you think Krakow is worth seeing?
Thanks for the castle idea, I will look into it maybe in Switzerland... Lol, while doing my exchange, all the castles began to look the same... sure some stod out, but it started to get a bit like "oh just another castle!", so maybe a castle themed trip wouldnt work that well for me afterall... :/
I'm not into morning travelling so Id probably fly from Rhodes to Athens in the evening, so eventually I would end up having a full day there (stay there tha t night... lol did I just contradict myself?) and leave that next morning for Tirana... I was thinking trains, however I'm aware that rail travel isn't included in the normal rail pass, so perhaps I could get a Balkans flexi pass? Or individual tickets?
I guess I dont really want to go to Tirana and Belgrade apart from the fact that they are in countries which I would be passing through, however I would like to see Sarajevo and all the places after it...

Ok, to compare, last itinerary looked like this:
Rome-Florence-Siena-CT-Nice or Aix-Avignon-Paris-Rouen-Belgium-Rhine-Berlin-Munich-Salzburg-Innsbruck-Interlaken-Lucerne-Venice-Piran-Ljubjana-Zagreb-Dubrovnik-Budapest-Brasov-Bucharest-Istanbul-Bodrum-Rhodes-Athens-London
The new one looks like this: Fly from Melbourne to Rome (4 or 5 days) Florence (3) - Siena (2) - Cinque Terre (3) - Interlaken (2) - Lucerne (2) - Insbruck (2) - Salzburg (3) - Vienna (2) - Prague (4) - Krakow? (3) - Bratislava (3) - Budapest (2) - Brasov (3) - Bucharest (3) - Istanbul (4) - Antalya (2) - Kas (2) - Rhodes (3) - Athens (1) - Tirana? (3) - Belgrade (2) - Sarajevo (2) - Dubrovnik (3) - Split (2) - Zadar (2) - Zagreb (1) - Ljubjana (3/4) - Bled/Bovec (2) - Piran (2) - Venice (2) - Fly to London..
Obviously things will change and thats just a rough guide but does it seem alright? I'm really not sure about the Greece to Venice part of the trip.. looking at a map it looks a bit strange..
Time isn't really a constraint, I just want to finish before July... but money is! I figured it wouldnt matter if I went for 11 weeks (and this is a bit more than 11) because logically Eastern Europe would be a bit cheaper..

Alright, so in previous posts I planned my first ideas of itineraries and as foretold Im changing my mind again! So I thought what if I could backpack, then work, then backpack again! Ok, ok, so not that original, but here’s what I thought…
For my first “trip”, I thought I could cut out France, Belgium and Germany (more on that later..)
So moving up from Italy (this is only a rough idea thought of by me 5 min ago), go to Switzerland, then across to Austria, Czech Republic, ?Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, (fly to) Turkey, Greece, Albania?, Serbia?, Bosnia?, Croatia, Slovenia then back to Italy (Venice and fly to London from there.
So how does that sound? That way, I’ll be able to spend more time in the Eastern-y countries, because I’m sure that when I’m in London it’ll be much easier for me to visit Western Europe…
Then once I’ve been working for a while – probably in September, backpack Germany, France and Spain.
So is that a better idea or should I stick with the first plan? Also, what about the countries with question marks? They look good in my guide book but I’m interested in what people who’ve actually been there think.
Thanks again!

Alright... I've been doing a bit more research - train times, etc...
David I liked ur suggestion of Venice to Piran! I like boats and the ocean and everything =)
Does any one knoe what Bodrum is like? from what I was reading it seems nice and it is easy to get to Kos or Rhodes...
lol Cinque Terre looks like an awesome suggestion - after reading about it I'm pretty convinced! I read that you can start walking from the first town to the last (there are 5?)... Thanks =)

For some reason my computer is being all weird - so I'll try continuing now - sorry for all the typos in the last post!
Going from Venice to the Istrian coast definately makes sense... I was a bit unsure of trains - that was all... do you know if you can you go directly to the coast from Venice?
Im confused... Is it hard to get flights from Athens to London? Sorry I just didnt get what you meant- going from Turkish coast to Greek island to Athens)... the idea is to work in London for about 4 months (travelling around a bit on my time off - I REALLY want to go to russia for at least a week) and then to Fly back to Australia, stopping perhaps in Egypt or Asia somewhere depending on finances... time really isnt an issue as I ill be taking the whole year off.
BTW: I think its going to be more like 11 weeks then 9 weeks!!!! ;D
Thanks again -- everyone is so helpful!

Thanks once again for the suggestions... I was planning on taking the night trains when possible so a.) To save money on hostels and b.) Save precious time visiting new cities... and I don't really mind European train travel... except for losing my digital camera on some train... but thats a different story! In some places I will definately try to fly-- like Bucarest to Istanbul - thats 18 hours by train! And possibly even Budapest to Bucarest... are there any other places you think its best to fly? Thanks Eagle... for a couple of the places like Florence and Sienna, I really had no idea - same with Slovenia... I will make changes accordingly!. My brother got married in Milan and I guess for no real reason (besides having In-law family in Lake Como - incredibly expensive) I thought it would be interesting to see... Just reading about CT, it does look incredible... thanks for the tip, still not sure... maybe I can run a poll (im a bit stubborn to convince but im sure that would do it ) With Marseille, I pretty much said it because I have been there.... I think I meant Southern France... just unclear which part was the best! Normandy: Family friends castle - not exactly sure where yet *reminder to self: send them an email!*... Belgium: Braine Le Comte to be exact it was where I spent a semester on exchange and I basically just want to meet up with my friends and family, I have already seen most of Belgium... Rhine: What if I began in Cologne, went to Bonn, stayed for a day or two, then went down back to Cologne, or is that too much? I have no real desire to go to Prague, I heard its just like other countries I will be visiting... Ok now I'm really confused about what to do about the Salsburg Insbruk (yes I had been considering it - you convinced me!) Switzerland Venice thing... It seemed that on the rail sight that Salzburg was much closer to Munich, than the other cities so I hoped to avoid back tracking, although I can see exactly what you mean when looking on a map (my desktop has turned into my Itinerary!)... So... umm yeah.. I looked it up and from Munich to Salzburg is 1.5 hr where as to Lucerne its more like 6 hours... From interLaken to Venice its about 6 hours... however I could always go via Milan (like an extra half hour) so I could spend half a day there so I still get to see it - but dont take too many days out of the trip for it, or isnt it worth it?... (6 hours) --opposed to Salzburg to Venice which would be 5.5hours, so more travel time in the end anyway... ?
