hi, i was wondering what is really needed for travel in europe clothing-wise in winter (january). i am in australia and live where snow is non-existent and where 'cold' means 5 degrees celcius in the middle of our winter (which is nothing compared to below 0degrees)! i have looked around at wind-proof jackets, which are different to waterproof jackets which are again different to water resistent jackets and heat retaining jackets... is it necessary to get a waterproof jacket or can i just carry around a poncho? is there much difference in the various 'fleece' windproof jackets? would thermals suffice under normal clothes? i am also wondering about the prices of these items. Here in aust it is pretty pricey for jackets and thermal etc. I am debating if i should wait and buy stuff in NZ or the US before i head to europe (i am going on an around the world trip.. on a budget!) anyone with advice, prices or websites i can go to please feel free to let me know!! ta!
