does anyone know if canadian embassies are useful with providing information on local accomadations and general tourist inquiries? ex. when i'm in Paris would the embassy provide information on a good hostel, place to eat, etc?

I wouldn't think so..they deal more with stolen passports and that sort of thing.

You probably want to hit the Tourist Information centers for that sort of thing.
