Hi. I am going to be spending 5 months travelling around Europe, starting in Holland. I have a Alcatel mobile & would like to purchase a SIM card. If I buy this in Holland, will it work all around Europe? How much will it cost roughly. Thanks

You can easily buy a new SIM card in the Netherlands and it will work all over Europe, but there are some difficulties. When you leave the Netherlands, you will be then be making international calls whenever you make a call, and this gets quite expensive.
Also, your Netherlands SIM card will be next to impossible to recharge with credits once you leave the Netherlands.
Depending on how long you are staying, you may want to buy multiple SIM cards for the countries you will be staying in the most. I have one for the Czech Republic and Spain, and I make sure to charge it up a lot whenever I travel.
I don't remember the costs, but I *think* you can get a SIM card for as cheap as US$10.
Hope this helps, but keep in mind my knowledge of this is very minimal. Maybe someone else can give you a better answer.
Cheers, Ray

Thanks for the advice Ray. We are staying in a variety of countries for sometimes 1 week, sometimes 3 weeks & travel to 12 countries over the 5 months.
I do not think that buying a sim in holland will work, as we are only there for our first week.
I may just have to look into my local phone company in NZ & see what they have to call back home. Thanks
