While reading through a friends guidebook on Rome (Eyewitness Books, Top 10 Rome) I found a blurb that its possible to address a package to the post office there and go there to pick it up for a small fee. I am travelling to Rome next week and need to receive a package from the states next week which is going to be sent 3 day international express. Has anybody heard of this and if so, is it reliable enough to receive something relatively important like a camera? Would it be best to have it sent to the hotel? On the flip side of the hotel thing, is that I am not staying at a large hotel, I am staying at a small 3 star.

yeah, its called poste restante (or something like that). Seems fairly secure- you'll need photo ID to pick it up. However, if you have an amex card/travellers checks you might be able to get them to hold a package for you (not sure if this is discontinued though).
