Wow, these boards are great! i've just spend the last 45 minutes scanning through and there's so much information! I'm so glad I came across this site. Well, I came back from my month long trip to Europe six months ago and ever since, i've been daydreaming about it and figuring out where I want to go next. I noticed that a lof of the posts here are from first time backpackers to Europe and I was wondering if there was anyone out there that is planning a second trip soon and if so, do you know where you want to go next? do you still have a lot of questions about your itinerary or are you better at figuring it out since you've done it before?

I'm starting to work on my fourth....but I start planning the next trip on the flight home from the last one. I do think that it is a bit easier each time. Biggest advantage is that one has a much better idea of the need to allow in travel times and you get a whole lot smarter in your packing! Nothing like having dragged that heavy thing around to impress for sure the need to pack light!! And while there are indeed a lot of first timers making their plans, look again....Kim has any number of regularl posters who have already been once or multiple times who can offer great eyewitness help.

I'm planning my 2nd trip right now . Ever since I went in Summer '02, all i've been able to think about is going back. I went on a 2 week Cosmos tour through 9 countries & it has totally changed my perspective on everything since my eyes have been opened to the rest of the world. My friend (who has never even been on a plane before ) has gotten tired of hearing me blabber on about "this Europe place" over the last year and a half, so he's going with me this time to see what its all about. This time it's backpacking instead of an organized tour, but i'm going back to mostly the same places (London, A-Dam, Paris, Rome) and also to Nice & Prague this time ;D. I also agree with you about this being a cool site. Very cool site matter of fact. A place for like minded individuals that share the common obsession for travel.

I'm another one of those "planning-for-my-second-trip" types. I don't think I'm a rookie anymore, although my name would suggest otherwise. ;D
My first time was a general backpacking tour around Europe. This time I hope to live in Europe, working or studying. Maybe as early as this summer.

i spent last summer in europe and when i got home i was in a major funk! i missed the culture, the people i had met, the freedom of not having all of the "extras" in life.... i went back to paris for 2 weeks about a month ago with a friend that i had met there over the past summer. we had a great time, and again when i got home i was in a funk again. and now i am moving to paris a week from today!!!! i am much more confident traveling after last summer, and can't wait to return to some of my favorite places and visit some of the places i want to see but never made it to. also, now that i have friends in europe who also want to do some more traveling i wont be doing it alone, which will be a different experience! i think the second or third or fourth..... time around you are more secure in yourself and are more focused on where you want to go. you know your style of travel, know mainly what to expect, and aren't thrown for such a loop when things go off track!
