Hello everyone!!

Sooooooooo my Spain and Portugal hopes were beginning to fade for this year so I took a VERY last minute trip to Dominican Republic..........

Long story short -

worst flight of my life
hotel overbooked by double the occupancy
3 hotels, in first 3 days downgrading each time
and sick for the past 3.5 weeks since i returned

But back on track and caught up with work, work and school. That'll teach me eh!

poor thing, that really sucks! I was sick during my trip too, it wasn't great. But it sure isn't any better when you get home. Did you have a little fun at least?

Gee, my parents are from that country...or i should say i'm dominican born in US. Sorry to hear your trip went so bad, it really can be a beautiful and enjoyable place, although I have not been there for some time. I too got sick while on my last trip there and it wasn't fun. Hope you feel better.
Now general question, This is the first time i will be travellign (3 weeks europe) and woudl love to continue at least one new place every year. Is it too personal to ask how you guys are able to travel so frequently?? I guess im thinking in terms of $ and vacation time from work. Will be graduating from graduate program this year (not much $ in social work) and would looooove to do the traveliing that many of you have done!!

Hey Guys

Yes I did have fun on the last half of my trip thankfully! It was just very disappointing I guess to be so stressed after looking forward to relaxing the entire time. We've got a claim in with Conquest vacations and should hear about possible compensation by this week.

FYI - last year when I had almost 2 months of vacation time........ it was a combination from my annual 3 weeks and banked hours from 3 months of working nearly 70 hours a week! So unfortunately no magic behind having the time off - you need to work your a$$ off for it I'm sure some people are lucky enough to be able to afford travel anytime because life has just been good that way to them......... but for the average salaried person like myself - it's sacrifice. If I want to travel I give up other things for months to pay for it. Or get another job which I also had last year.

It'll definitely be a year or two now before my day dreams will be reality again for more travel oh well, lots of time to plan!

Ah - it's terrible how bad I want to travel! Some days I wish I could just quit my job, sell everything I own and go but my career opportunities here far out weigh the alternatives.

Although it's always fun to have something to look forward to and good incentive to save money. So I'll do some research and likely change my mind 10 times but eventually I'll be off again.

After my last little trip to Dominican....... eventhough I've said it several times; sitting on a beach at a resort just isn't me - bores me to tears. I would have much rather saved my $$ and vacation time for Spain! Oh well, next time

Same thing here! My friends won't travel with me cause it seems they've gotten the Club Med gitter bug! It's like an epidemic, everyone wants to lay on a beach, not see one bit of the country they're in and actually never leave the resort, it hurts me when they call themselves travellers!

I have nothing against it though if you do go to a resort to relax, but why not travel around the resort too!

Oh well, I guess I'm born for exploring..hahaah!
