I'm wondering...I'll be in Ireland all summer, and I know it rains there a lot. I bought a raincoat from Eddie Bauer, and it's a little thick-it's suitable for warmth as well. Does anyone have any suggestions about what kind of coat/jacket I should take?

Eddie Bauer is good stuff I think...have loads of it! And although summer it can still be a bit on the 'chilly' side in Ireland so you might welcome the bit of warmth your jacket offers. I have a Helly Hanson rain parka that I adore....no lining at all, just a shell, but really waterproof and mid thigh length so it offers good protection from the rain. Don't forget Colemans Tent waterproofing spray...absolutely the best I have found...for your pack and daypack!

I too had an Eddie Bauer jacket for my trip. (It was actually my best-looking piece of clothing and wore it to mass!) I'm leaving in two weeks with a similar jacket. You should get something lightweight and let a sweatshirt or a few t-shirts keep you warm underneath of the rain slick. (Stuffed into a pillow case, a sweatshirt also makes a good pillow when camping.)
I say leave the heavy jacket at home.

Just had to say that I am leaving for Ireland in six days! I'll be there for three months.
