Has anybody here ever owned a hostel or know somebody who has? I live in the US, but am considering moving to Europe and purchasing a hostel. A quick search of the net didnt bring up many results on where to start (buying a current hostel or buying property and renovating it). If anybody has any ideas how to start the process I would appreciate it very much.

I think the red tape involving this could make this a long process, especially depending on what country you choose.
I think one of your first steps would be to contact a lawyer and find out what this will involve as well as contacting your embassy to see if and how you are able to swing this, from a citizenship aspect.
I think it's one thing to do it in your own country but a whole other continent opens up a whole other bag of worms - especially if you do it in somewhere like Italy where they are notorious for the length of time it takes to get something processed.
