Hi all-
Does anyone know if you can send wine home? Or do you have to bring it yourself? I know you're limited to two? bottles through customs, but wasn't sure if you could mail a bottle home to a person over 21 or not. Thanks--jessica

Yep you can...but there will be a duty/customs tax owed by the recipient...and they can be a bit steep.

You can, but it's expensive cause a bottle is heavy and there are taxes. I would prefer bringing it home with me, this way i'm sure it gets there in one piece. I'm not sure what your countrie's requirements are, but I know that last time I checked Canada allowed you to bring home about 2 bottles of wine for a stay of over 7 days.

If you decide to go this route may I suggest: 1) let the winery or store ship it for you and pay for the packing/shipping. They will be familiar with this and will pack it correctly to insure it arrives intact or 2)find a UPS store (or similar) and let them do the packing for you. (I can tell you precisely where one is located in Florence! ) As Jen said, it's liquid and heavy and will be pricey to ship along with the the duty taxes. However....FWIW I have been on planes previously with folks with literally cases of booze that seemed to be having no problems. HOWEVER...that applies mainly to the Carib to US routes!

Thanks for the info guys! My sister asked if I could send wine home to her and I wasn't sure if they let you ship alcohol.
