I'm planning on going to Europe for 3 months, it'll be my first time backpacking and im going with 1-2 people. Is this too much time for my first trip like this/not enough time? I'm not sure where im going yet, its a plan in the making. Im curious as to how many countries u think i could cover comfortably in that time frame, and what is the most practial way to get around, is the eurail pass really worth it or am i better off buying point-point tickets and take the bus occasionally? I'm i better off booking trains/buses b4 i even go and stick to a schedual or do as i please when i please? If i show up at a train station for a regularly schedualed 3-4 hour trip with out a reservation, is it likely that i will be able to get a seat?

3 months is perfect for your first trip. My first trip was 3 months and I found it ideal. As far as planning - first you want to have a good idea of where you want to go, cities and countries. You can't figure out which is better, a rail pass or PTP until you have that all sorted out. I wouldn't worry about planning the transportation until you figure out a general intinary. It doesn't have to be set in stone, just an idea. Plan for at least 3 days in large cities and no less than 2 in any others. Remember you will be on the train alot so the longer you give yourself in places, the more relaxing your trip will be. You don't want to see Europe from a train window. Check out the Planning section on the main section of this site ( www.guideforurope.com ), it will walk you through how to plan your trip. Kim
