I've been visiting a number of different travel forums and websites preparing for this trip and I've noticed something that has me concerned.
I am not a small girl. While I'm not huge, I'm not a skinny chick and never will be. That said, I've noticed a definite anti-weight vibe coming from many travellers and some really negative comments being made about having to look at fat people in Hostels or how nice it is to visit Europe where there are no fat people.
Am I in for some problems overseas because of my weight? This isn't a subject I bring up lightly and one that I'm a bit embarassed to talk about but it is a concern. But I'm more than picking up a vibe because people aren't hiding their dislike.

Thanks for the PM's guys, but I just wanted to clarify that this will have no impact on me going or not going. I don't really care what other people think, I just wanted to know if I was going to have to deal with it or not.
As I told a few of you, my best friend had a horrible time in Korea over her size (height most likely) and that has clouded my view. Top that off with some really stupid posters on message boards and I was off on a run! ;D

meh, Libby just be confident! Confidence is anyone's best friend, because when you have it more than likely no-one will say or do anything, and if they do, your confidence will step up and deal with it for you! I've had comments thrown at me before about my scars (I scar very easily, and have some ugly scars from my regular vaccinations from when I was a kid living in Asia, and have some other horrid looking ones on my legs from different scrapes etc, plus an allergy to mosquitos doesn't help any), and I just turned and said "I don't even know you. How do my few scars affect your life so deeply that you feel the need to say that to me?" Shut them up, they were looking for me to be upset and lose confidence etc.

I usually go by the premise that if you treat people decently, you will receive the same in return. I suppose there will always be morons who resort to personal insults for whatever reason, but hopefully you won't encounter any of these on your trip. I also agree with Nicstar that a display of self confidence seems to help a lot in this regard.
Hope you have a great time on your trip!!!

That person sounds like some kind of communist hippie . My view is that you get arseholes everywhere - it's not hard to ignore them and to concentrate on those who's opinions you value.

Maybe I just expected more from people who have travelled. I've always found those that do are more open minded and accepting of differences. But you are right, there are arseholes all over the world.

Wow...that guy just needs to move out of America then.... And as for the "fat" asses, I personally enjoy a meaty ass, it usually means the woman it's attached to will have fun instead of denying enjoyment just because it might affect her looks. And really, if he wants to complain about fat assess, have him come down to the beaches here in SoFla where the older woman still wear thongs!
Still having nightmares over those...
