Again...damn you spymoose for this idea! ;D Anyway, I don't have to be back to work until Jan. 10, and I know that the extent of my New Years "Party" will be sitting in the living room with my parents kicking them awake when the ball drops...so as much fun as that SOUNDS, I'm skipping it all and just driving. Where? Beats the hell out of me! Well, I live in SoFla, so the only place I CAN go is North. Don't want to go to far, as I've never driven in snow before, but I'm heading out. I think I'll be leaving Wed. morning, and won't be driving home until Jan. 7 or 8. I've got some money saved (Motel 6 $40 a night), and anyway, I've got a truck, it's not like I haven't slept in it before. ;D So, if anyone is north or me (HAH! Isn't that everyone?) and you want to meet up for lunch, dinner, drinks, or whatever (and pictures! I'll bring GFEGary!), e-mail me or post here!
Edit: Ok, so my Tungsten will pick up my Yahoo mail, so that's a good thing! I can also read the boards from it, all providing I can find Hotspots on the way (don't all Starbucks have hotspots now?)

Lucky you Doug! That's a cool thing to do! Hope you have a lot of fun and good luck! I'd suggest a coffee, but you might find I'm a little too far north hahahahahha xoxo Jen

Hey Doug...have you done the antebellum south yet...Savannah, Charleston, Williamsburg, et al? Or how about Asheville, Charlotte, Chattenoga, Knoxville...although at the moment that area is pretty well buried in ice. I am pretty fully booked this coming week, but if you can let me know about your 'return' timetable I should be able to meet up with ya here in Jax...hell, I've got a spare bedroom that is way cheaper than Motel 6! And yes, nearly all Starbucks have WiFi....but newer stores like mine, may not have it up and running yet. Google free WiFi...there are loads of spots that offer it.

Heh...thanks for the tips guys! I don't know where I'll be, I'm just drving north until I get tired or I spot something/someplace I wanna stop at. Like I said, I'll have access to here, so I'll keep everyone up to date on where I am and what I'm doing! Packing tomorrow (still haven't told my parents yet... ;D)
Edit: Wow, for a future teacher I sure do spell a lot of things wrong...and I'll be shaping young minds...MWUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

So I'm sitting in a Starbucks in Savannah, Georgia. Absolutely beautiful here! Can't hit the tour I wanted, it leaves too late in the day. Ging, did you know there's a Florence in South Carolina? It's right off I-95, so I'll try to hit it for pictures for you! So I'm off to the Carolinas now, probably Charleston. Oh ya, it's in the low 40's here, and I'm loving it! Post from my next stop!

DOUG, Sounds like you're enjoying your trip so far. It will be interesting to see where you end up on New Year's Eve? You'll have to phone your parents to "kick" them awake this year (assuming you have a cell phone with you?).
I can relate to what you're doing in some ways. Many years ago (in the '70s, which "dates" me a bit) I was in the same situation -- bored. I took a somewhat spontaneous trip, leaving the Vancouver area when I had a stretch of "days off" and ended up in Ensenada, Mexico! It was an interesting trip, to say the least (I was warned to watch out for "Bandidos" on the freeway south of Tijuana, but thankfully never did see any).
BTW, you must be using the Tungsten C? I bought myself a T3 this Christmas, but don't have it set up for Wi-Fi yet (will look at that as soon as my bank account recovers from Christmas). I do have some net access possible with the T3 by using the Bluetooth link with my cell phone, but haven't tried it yet.
Hope you have a great time on your trip! Happy New Year all!!!

Yes, I do have a C. It's friggin great! So I'm currently in Raleigh, NC. I know, it's a bit away from Charleston, but it's a long story and I can't post my travel journal right now. I'm doing the touristy thing today, then who knows. If anyone has any suggestions, post 'em! Oh ya, Ging, Florence was a shopping town, with Target, Wal-Mart, etc. Nothing beautiful about it that I saw! See ya next time I find a Starbucks!

Just got back from snowboarding in NC. If you get a chance, check out the Boone/Blowing Rock area; plenty of good ski resorts there. All of the "High Country" in NC rocks...good luck man...why don't you also check out DC? You won't be too far away!

So far it's great, my hotel even has wifi in the lobby! Going to have to cut my trip short this time though, staying here is blowing my hotel budget all out of whack, but dude, I've always wanted to come here.

I was in DC for New Years. I went over to Arlington for fireworks, then stumbled back to my hotel. Thank god for cabs! I'm heading home today though DC has killed my budget, so I'm gonna drive to my Uncles house outside of Columbia, SC and suck up for a couch. Post again laer!
