ok, so, here's an idea...what's everyone's favorite songs regarding travel or to listen while taking off across europe...in the words of Bradley Nowell of Sublime..."I just want to sail around the world, cuz it's f***** round!"

Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again" and John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads." The best travel songs are the ones you hear on your trip. When you hear them again back home, it brings back good memories. Take the aforementioned John Denver song for example, that song will always remind of the beer halls in Munich. ;D

I suppose the choice of music depends on individual taste. I usually have a collection of "soft rock", some classical, a bit of opera -- a varied selection to suit just about any mood.
I also agree with #2, that the songs you hear while travelling can bring back fond memories. I heard a song in England in June, and wished I'd taken note of the title / artist as I'd really like to hear it again! I like travelling with an AM/FM radio in addition to "canned" music, so that I can get some idea of the local tastes.
Happy travels all!!!

yea, I think they're always "standards" you have to take with you, but the best, is hearing the same popular song played over and over again while you're abroad...when I was in Mexico, I heard a techno song repeating "sa, sa, sa", good times...but Sublime (acoustic) carried me through my first trip of Europe and brings back found memories...how about this, any fav. foreign artists or music?

I'm quite partial to Spirit of the West's "Home for a Rest".
It's the theme song for my trip. ;D

You should have seen me dancing to that in a wedding dress!! Of course everyone else that was young was up there too!
And Ry, I LOVE Sublime! One of my favorites actually. Some of their songs are just MADE for travelling.

Well the lyrics sound quite familiar to a song I've heard once in a while, and as I'm also Canadian, quite sure it's the same one!

Muvver, I wish I could remember anything about that song, to give you some idea where to look! I should have written down either the title of the name of the band!!! I would hopefully recognize it again if I heard it.
I heard the song quite frequently during the time I was in North Yorkshire (Catterick / Pickering / Malton, etc.), at the end of May / first week or two of June 2004. Not sure which radio station it was, but it was one of the "popular / rock" stations in that area (BBC???).
I tried to do a search on the net and download some "clips" but didn't have any luck so far. It might have been a U.K. band, but perhaps it will end up on the radio over here at some point? One of these days when I get more time to sit in front of the computer, I'll try again.
Thanks for your Post. Cheers!!!
