I've been to Europe several times, but never as a backpacker. I've generally worn my basic black t-shirts and skirts and doc martens and not had too many problems.
BUT I will be backpacking in Europe this summer and was wondering what would be best for the subculturally/alternatively minded to wear? Clothing and shoes that would fit the general stylings, but would still perform great under backpacking conditions?
Thanks!

I would say just wear what you're comfortable in. Just go through your closet and pick things which are light, pack small, and don't wrinkle. I don't know about the Doc Martens though. They can get kind of heavy.
