You be the judge if my question is silly.. at least I'm asking it honestly! (hoping no one's laughing!) I'm going to be spend about a month in the UK & Ireland and keep hearing stories from people who become "desperate" for a hair cut while travelling, but can't find anywhere decent to go. Being a hairdresser, I am tempted to bring a pair of my scissors with me just in case someone I meet is in that boat. Does this seem silly to anyone?

Definately bring them! Both me and my husband would have taken you up on it had we run across you during our 7 months in Europe. Hair cuts are very expensive over there and not really in a backpackers budget.
Remember to put them in your checked luggage, not carry on, before you go to the airport though!

There isn't a shortage of decent places to go for a haircut, but as Kim says it can be pretty expensive. Just for a cut (and I'm a guy) I normally pay £15 (so US$28), although it's not uncommon to pay more depending on what you go for.

I wanted to get my hair changed before I came back to Canada to mark my "New beginning". I searched for a place but everything was SOOOO expensive or if it wasn't it looked so dodgy!
I would have KISSED THE FLOOR to find a fellow traveller that is a hairdresser!
Bring them, and like Kim said, don't bring them in your carry on!

But on the other hand......I got the best hair cut of my entire life, I swear, in Aix en Provance, France. Walking along the street and passed a salon that was at that time empty of customers. Braved it up and went in. He spoke no English and I no French...pantomined it all and it was FABULOUS! Nearly 4 months on the road, I was desperate for a cut. Had someone speaking English been there, scissors in hand, I too would have jumped at the chance! But it cost me 22 euros for a terrific cut and I felt gorgeous for days afterward. Yea for hair care on the road! Bring your tools gal...I doubt you will find any troubles making a bit extra for the road along the road.

Thanks for the replies! Based on your feedback I'm pretty sure I'll bring them with me just in case. You never know who you'll meet along the way & they don't exactly take up much room! Thanks!
