Is it possible to reserve tickets to the Vatican Museums in advance? If so, where would be the best place to do that online, or is there a number to call? (to avoid the hefty service charge)

WT..you were there the most recently if I recall correctly? I don't remember them reserving..the only 'easy' way in was if you were on a tour...with a special entrance door. What do you remember? Do they have reservations a la Uffizi?

I used Enjoy Rome for its Vatican tour, and we had to line up like everyone else. Fortunately in my case it was more like 15 minutes (even though it was crowded inside the museum - I can't imagine what it's like when it's more crowded!). However, I found this on the Vatican site, and it does sound like if you book the tours that the Vatican itself puts on and use the entrance they suggest, you can avoid the lineup by following the instructions provided. mv.vatican.va/3_EN/pages/z-Info/MV_Info_Servizi_Visite.htmlI have read that otherwise the best time to go is around noon. I haven't tried it myself, but supposedly it's better than going in the early morning.
