Alright, so I'm a geek. We've established that on the board already. Lookit this! Someone's finally created a device that uses GPS to find where you are, and present information based on your location in a litle handheld device! You know how cool this would be for backpackers? Edit: The link is to long, you'll have to copy and paste to read the article.

I just clicked on the link and was taken right to it. As a fan of audio guides I know I will be in line for this. Any ideas yet on pricing?

Doug, thanks for posting that. It does indeed look like an interesting product, one that I suspect will change travel forever! The physical design seems to be somewhat similar to the Tapwave Zodiac, which is another Palm OS device. It's quite possible they use some of the same technology (LCD screens, etc.).
While it sounds like the "test run" worked well, I have to wonder how well this will behave indoors (such as in the Louvre or wherever), where acess to the GPS satellites might be somewhat inhibited? How will the device "know" where the user is standing. Perhaps some infrastructure will have to be added to support this, such as antennas or repeaters inside popular tourist venues.
My only comment is "why didn't I think of it"!!! Someone will be getting very rich with this one!

Indoors, they'd probably use wireless tri-location to determine where you are. This, of course, means whatever building you're in needs wireless access points installed...
