Hi,
I just got back home in May from being in the UK for two years. I've been looking for work since then and just recently got myself a full time job for a few months but with my previous jobs abroad and being away for two years, I am told there might be a conflict with Revenue Canada.
I've checked the revenue site for info and found a section on "Canadian Residency Abroad" but i would like another opinion.
Does anybody know anything in regards to Taxes and this type of situation?
Kind Regards, Travelers Rash

I'd start by getting a free half-hour of legal advice. This service is available in Vancouver, and quite likely where you live also.
But in general, I think if you can prove you haven't been resident in Canada for X period of time, but have been resident since a given date, you should be able to set up your taxes properly. Try to get iron-clad documentation of this (plane tickets, restarting your provincial medical insurance coverage, etc.). The requirements to be or not be a resident for tax purposes can be a bit perplexing, so it pays to work it out now.
I think the worst thing that will happen is that you will get excessive tax withholdings until you work it out, but as I suggested try to resolve this quickly.

Thanks for the quick response, I will definitely fix this before I get into a more complex situation.
I wonder if anybody else knows this or it might just be me.
Kind Regards,

I can't tell you all the regulations, but my best friend was teaching in Korea for 3 years and she got nailed by RC when she got home. Another friend lived in Oregon for about the same length of time and didn't pay a cent.
