what does everyone else do regarding prescriptions in europe? I have read it is wise to bring a copy of your prescription. In the event that you lose your medication in Europe, can you fill a new prescription with a copy of the document?

i usually have a copy of the perscription just as documentation for whatever i'm taking. not everything is available and approved everywhere. perscriptions are only valid in the country written in... in the case of canada (don't know about hte US) they are province specific. if you lose your perscription drugs you'll probably have to go see a doctor.

Definitely take a prescription with you. Also make sure it's written using the generic name (not trade). This is especially important if your drugs are controlled, e.g. temazepam.
If you lose a prescription you'll have to get a new local copy. In this sense it's worth making sure you have fully comprehensive travel insurance, as otherwise this could get expensive (in the majority of European countries only Doctors have the right to write prescriptions).
