Travelling in europe next year trying to think of most essential destinations, i like travel(obviously) good food and drink, history, culture and scenery. Anybody have any ideas of places to go and things to do on these lines. Any ideas, tips, advice or suggestions would be welcome. Thanks

on my last trip, i really enjoyed Italy. Rome was especially good under your criteria, also Florence & Cinque Terra.
Portugal is also good, especially Algarve for nature and some towns near Lisbon, as well as Lisbon itself. [at one point the pope divided the world between Portugal & Spain, as they were the two most powerful seafaring Roman Catholic states. So, Italy, as well as Portugal & Spain for Southern Europe.
Austria also would be good. Innsbruck is a great place for scenery. Salzburg and, especially, Vienna are great for history & culture. [Vienna was the capitol of Habsburg (Central) Europe, there are elements of the cultures from the various nations in that empire]

I second David's suggestions, along with Paris, Lyon (great for foodies), Berlin, Dresden, Munich, somewhere in the north of Germany (I'm partial to Bremen, but it's not for everyone), Luzern/Lucerne and the Gimmelwald/Lauterbrunnen area of Switzerland, the lakes in Italy (Garda and Como esp), Barcelona (and a side trip to Figueres for the Dali musuem if you're into that), the Croatian coast, Slovenia....I could go on but that should give you some ideas. Happy planning ;D
