I was all set to do carry-on only this year, but I realized that if I do that, I can't bring my sharp, pointy nail scissors . Apparently even a nail file can cause problems. I really want these scissors, so I guess I have to give up the idea of carry-on. Has anyone found a way around this?

Hey!
Mailing them to "poste restante" at the local post office or embassy!

Except - knowing Canada Post, they'll arrive after I've already left . Plus, if I am going to make a special trip to the post office or embassy, I think I'd prefer to just buy another pair when I got there. But that's a good tip in general. Thanks.

No problem, I see what you mean, but it took me not so long to send my stuff back home, and it's generally not too bad, of course you could always send it a month before you leave! Most embassies are right in the smack center of a big city so they are easy to get to.... Well, it's up to you, but having luggage checked in isn't that complicated to my own opinion.... xoxo jen

I probably would just buy some when I got there, save yourself the hassle.
We did have one time where we had to put Brads pocket knife in an envelope and just check that - he forgot to pack it in with his stuff.
But then you are still stuck waiting for it..

Personally I'd buy them. Stuff like that isn't that expensive here. BTW- a relavent article from bbc news: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_east/3828773.stmI can't believe that they confiscated some duck tape- I normally carry that with me when I travel as it's so handy. Also I've carried it in my carry on bag loads of times before with no trouble.

That article was pretty funny in respect to the woman who wanted to peroxide-treat her friend's hair during the flight.
I can't believe I'm worrying about this nail scissors issue at all. But I guess I have to have some obsession ;-).

on my last trip, i just let my mustache grow for the 2nd week of the trip. (it was 1st trimmed when i got my hair cut in La Coruna) then, i bought a sissors in Italy - after the intra-Europe flight - to trim it for the rest of the trip.
my mustache needs trimming more frequently than my beard!
sissors are another no-no on planes these days.
