Is taking a suitcase suicide?

I want to take a suitcase instead of a backpack. However I want to be able to keep it at the hostel if possible. Are the lockers at the hostels big enough to hold suit cases? and are the safe? or average prices of lockers?

leena, see my Post in the "Packing" section. You could probably have included all your questions on this topic in one post.

One point though, there is usually no charge for the Lockers at Hostels (although I should mention that not all Hostels have Lockers, so it's nice to be able to at least lock the zippers on your Backpack. Although this is not totally secure given the inherent weaknesses of Backpacks, I feel this is a bit better than the cheap Locks they usually put on Suitcases).

One other thing - although the Lockers are usually provided at no cost in Hostels, you have to provide your own Padlock. I would suggest using a good quality Lock, but you'll have to decide whether you prefer a key operated lock or combination lock. I posted some detailed information on Locks previously on the Boards here, but don't have time to search for it tonight.
