I am looking for the best/ coolest/ most badass festivals of '08 figure from the beginning of July to end of August. Such as The love parade in Berlin, running of the bulls in popona... that kind of thing. Also will most likely be traveling alone and will be looking for cool people to party/travel with at such fests.

If you like music festivals (rather expensive), then the two festivals that are most worth checking out are Roskilde in Denmark en Lowlands in the Netherlands, because both festival also have other things, then just music.

I can't recall the details, but isn't there some kind of large music festival in the U.K. in the summer also - perhaps Glastonbury?

Yes Eagle - Glastonbury Festival is in the UK in Somerset. It is held on the last weekend in June and is the biggest and best IMO. I used to go every year as a kid (hippy parents :-) ). The only 'problem' is that now festivals have become really popular in the UK and so demand for tickets and prices have gone up A LOT. Glastonbury clamped down on security and so now if you wanna get in you MUST buy a ticket (Not the case a few years ago - dodgy fence jumping). To get a ticket you must register in Feb online only then can you try for a ticket in April which cost around £150. You can only pay in the UK with a debit card online NOT a credit card and on the telephone you can only pay with a bank cheque NOT a personal cheque. There are different rules for overseas buyers. Every ticket is personal to the buyer - some sort of photo ID - and can not be transfered to another person. To give you an idea of demand this year 400,000 people registered in Feb for tickets and when they went on sale in April, the festivals entire stock of 137,500 tickets sold out in just 105mins. If you want more info www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/There is a great music festival scene in the UK, not just Glastonbury, catering for all tastes. Check out www.efestivals.co.uk/ But get tickets early for the ones you want to attend because they do sell out and dodgy people will try to sell you dodgy tickets they have made at home on their laptops :-(

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is fabulous. If you are going, book your accommodation now. But it's an excellent experience.

Lowlands in the Netherlands is 17+18+19 of August (www.lowlands.nl), around the same time (starting the 16th) Pukkelpop in Belgium is held.
the Love parade is rumoured to take place in Essen on the 25th of August. But the location and the date for the parade still have to be confirmed.
27,28 and 29 of July, the UK-version of the Womad festival is taking place in Malmesbury, Wiltshire (www.womad.org)
I have no clue if one of these fit into your initerary, but remember, there are also a lot of smaller, more local festival with usualy 1 or 2 national or international bands on the bill, and a lot of them have no entrance. (like the Zomerparkfeest in Venlo, the Netherlands 2-5 august.)
