Hi Everyone I'm new here! A friend and I want to backpack Europe next year for six weeks (haven't a specific date yet) and at the moment we are trying to gather as much info as possible on different places and things to see. Something both of us would like to do very much is cycle through Provence for a few, say 4, days. I've been to websites that advertise bicycling tours but all the tours I've seen are very expensive and way beyond our budget. Is it possible to rent bikes somewhere and cycle Provence on our own? Would it be hard getting around on a bike with backpacks? Would we get cheap accomodation in that area so that we can get by on our budget? Is there anyone here who's done this before who could give me some advice? Is there a nicer place to do this type of thing than Provence? We're just looking for some experieces beyond the big city big sights thing. Thanks!

Welcome rozanne!
Another part of France that is good for bike tours is the Loire Valley. Provence is pretty, so either choice will be fine. You'll find that the costs of these tours take into account the transport of your luggage, accommodation, meals, backup vehicle, etc so you are well looked after. By all means look into hiring your own bikes (sorry, can't help you with places) but you'll be limited by luggage (biking with a backpack is a full-on thing so don't take a full size one unless you're uber fit!) and will have to locate your own accommodation so you'll be best to sort out a route first.
Hope you find what you're looking for!
