Im interested in buying a few different travel books, to help me plan my trip in Summer '09. Yesterday I bought Rick Steves' Europe Through the Back Door 2008 (hopefully the 2009 edition wont be too different haha)
any other suggestions?

I'd suggest going to the library and checking out a bunch.
I like DK Eyewitness books for various countries.
Blue Guides are very good for in-depth historical and artistic information.
Fodors can be really good.

I live in a small town outside Toronto and out library has a poor selection, everything is very outdated.

perhaps you could look as excerpts on the web. that might give you a feel for the different books.

Let's Go has excerpts of their books online. Michelin has information about attractions on viamichelin.com, as well as in Michelin Green Guides.
