First time solo traveller to Europe. Planning on arriving in Athens early April 2003 and heading to islands first primarily because I suspect it will be warmest place. I have a few questions about this destination at this time of year. 1) will Ios, Santorini and Crete be void of travellers my age ( 36 ) or nightlife at this time of year ? 2) In your opinion will Greece create too much culture shock for a Canadian Hoser like myself as a first fly in destination ? 3) Is the Pink Palace appropriate for someone in their mid thirties ( it looks like fun ). 4) Is this ( Greek Islands ) a good destination to meet other english speaking travellers at this time of year. 5) In your experience, where would be a good fly in destination to feel comfortable and meet fellow travellers to get the trip off to a good start. I plan on staying in hostels and B & B's a la Rick Steeves in outlying areas. I am not on a tight budget but my purpose of travelling Europe is to meet new people and broaden my horizons. Plan on seeing Greece, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Amsterdam and possibly retreat to a villa in Spain with friends to end the trip. I will leave my queries with the panel of experts. Thanks.
Rackman.

IMO, early April would be too early to visit a Greek island. You would find few tourists of any age at that time of year. I would wait till after Easter (in Greece it's on April 27 in 2003). In Ios most visitors are teens and low 20s... anyone who graduated college would be an "oldie" there...

I agree 100% with what Nitsansh wrote. just because you are 36 does not mean that you are too old for any of the hedonism that is in store for you in Ios and Corfu (Pink Palace). Just realize that the majority of tourists that you will encounter at these two destinations will be younger than you.
Then again, a drunk younger girl might not be a turn-off.

as i'm not a lawyer, i can't really advise in this area. but, be sure you know any applicable laws regarding relations with a teenager! you don't want to go to greek jail for statutory rape! i suspect greek jails aren't a whole lot better than turkish jails - and we've all hear the stories about turkish jails!
