Overall, the pack looks good to me-strong, padded waistbelt (very important) etc. The thing that matters the most though, is comfort. This differs from person to person so basically, I wouldn't buy a pack without trying it on. If you can find a good pack on the web, go to a camping supply store-try it on, then buy it on the web if it suits you. The only thing I'm not crazy about with this pack is the way the daypack is set up. it kind of sticks out and if you have any sort of weight in it, it will pull you down. That's not a major thing as you should be packing anything heavy in the main pack, closest to your back. One more thing-does the small pack have straps that you can wear as a backpack? Might be a pain if not. It's easier to deal with as a backpack as opposed to a small bag. Are you sure you want a pack that size as well? It's a pretty big one! Take a look at my backpack page-especially the Continental and Independent Journey. Excellent packs. The New World Journey is also excellent if you do decide to go with something that large. members.shaw.ca/guideforeurope/backpacks.htmlKim

I traveled for 4 months last year and went with the New World Journey. A big pack to be sure, but I was going in winter so needed more 'stuff'. And....I overpacked so it was stuffed most of the time. After all that time, on and off trains, buses, dropped here there and everywhere I never had one problem with the pack and it looks today as good as new. Packed up and ready for the next trip. I heartily suggest Eagle Creek....they are great packs and have one to fit most any need. I got mine new for $250 and the performance made it some of the best money I spent. Choose your pack well! Otherwise, you'll regret it the entire trip. ging
