Hi everyone, I'm new to the board here and thought some of you would be willing to help me. I'm planning a 2 month trip to Europe in June-August of 2003. My 6 year old son will be going with me and possibly a friend. First off, what is the best and most inexpensive city to fly into from Los Angeles? I am on a VERY tight budget and need to do this as cheaply as possible. Secondly, I have no idea where to start as far as seeing Europe is concerned. I would love to see France, Italy, Spain, Greece but I don't know if that is feasible. What are some must see places? Should I buy a railpass? Any suggestions as to places to stay that are family friendly would be greatly appreciated. I want this to be an educational experience for my son and I and I really want to do this right. If I were going alone I would probably wing it a little more but with a child I think it's better to have most things planned out. Any help you guys could give me would be great. I'm taking itinerary suggestions... Thanks!!

you've picked the most crowded, hottests months for these places. do you have any flexibility about when you travel? Spring or Fall might be more pleasant times to travel in Southern Europe.

I agree with the above, definately the most crowded and hot months. Honestly, there is nothing like Greece at the end of Sept. after everyone has gone home. Even if you could do August and September instead, much more pleasant-although August is still pretty brutal, in Spain it got up to 45 when we were there. That might be a bit too much for your son. If you do, make sure to get air-conditioned rooms or you will never sleep at night.
Spring is also very nice, say May and June.
