Backpacking through Europe

TEXTHi...When I graduate high school in June I am planning on backpacking through Europe for a year. I love travelling and I've always wanted to go to Europe. I have never backpacked or stayed in hostels before. I'm trying to plan things but it's not working. I'm a spur of the moment kind of person and worrying and stressing about this is just not my style, however it is kind of scary to think about going to Europe and having no starting point...I was planning on flying into Heathrow airport and going from there. Do any of you have any help, suggestions, stories...have any of you backpacked before? Any response would be great...thanks.

My friend and I are in your same shoes. We have always talked about goign to europe after school, and this year decided that once we graduate we're going for it. We just did some research today. We're mainly doing southern europe as we're more interested in spain, greece, and italy. I suggest you check out all the countries europe has to offer and see what you want to do.
