Okay...so here's the deal. Traveled last Nov thru March, came home for what I thought was a month or two and planned to head back to Italy. Daughter & son in law need 'nanny' help with my granddaughter, so instead of spending the summer in Italy I find myself a home owner (again!) in Florida of all places. Love being able to spend so much time with Lizzy.....but gosh darn my feet itch to get on the road. My daughter has college Xmas break 14 Dec through 07 January and I am off for somewhere no matter what. Thoughts are torn......Scotland pretty much rules my heart, but I spent last Dec to include Xmas in Edinburgh last year there. Really want to return to Florence, Rome, etc as well as other places I did not have time for. Cheaper flights to UK than Italy, more expensive day to day in UK than Italy. Or.....maybe I should try someplace altogether different??? I know it's a decision I will have to make myself at the end, but thought I'd just ask for opinions from y'all. ;D Going to have approx 3 weeks.....where should I go this time??? ging

Sounds nice to have the freedom to just get up and go! I guess it's tough to offer helpful suggestions because in the end you'll probably decide on your own that 'this' is where I want to go and that's where you'll end up. Personally I'd probably want to explore countries/cities I haven't yet seen. For some reason I seem to enjoy seeing many different places than say 'absorbing' one place for weeks at a time. The one place I probably wouldn't want to stay during the holidays would be a big city like London or Paris. That's all I can offer up... probably not so much helpful as it is just me rambling on... Wherever you go you'll have to send us some updates ;D

NO....as a matter of fact have decided to do the UK and not Italy this trip. And I was there last year for Christmas, spent it in Edinburgh and loved being in England/Scotland for the holidays! Now just need to decide which town I will Xmas and then New Year's in this year. I travel 'reservation' free with no set plans, but do book someplace for big holiday times. Many places do close and I like to insure I have a place to sleep, and eat ;D on those days. Paris for New Year's? I'd definately be booking a place to stay now.....or you could well end up in a flea dump or The Ritz as your only available options! ging
