Hi, Recently me and some friends decided we want to travel to Switzerland. We would also like to see Spain and France for a short period of time while were there. we are planning on doing this in June, 2002 (if we can pull it together). We have planned to traveling primarily by train and foot and stay from 14-18 days. We don't know if this will be possible due to a lack of "funds" but we will give it are best shot. In are pursuit of foreign travel I have decided it might be a good idea to here from other people who have done the same thing. If you have traveled Switzerland or the surrounding area I would greatly appreciate it if you would share your experience with me. I am looking for information about how you traveled, how much money you spent and how frugal you were during your stay. Thanks, Bill Ottsleming@hotmail.com

Do you mean 14-18 days for all 3 countries? That's really short time IMO. Any of these 3 countries deserve this amount of time. I was in Switzerland 17 days, Spain 15 days, France 13 days. I have seen most of Switzerland, but less than half of Spain and about a quarter of France.
Travelling in Switzerland is easy and you should have great time there if you love nature and outdoor activity. Great for hiking. If you avoid the pricy mountain railways and cable cars, it's not as expensive as many people imagine. But these mountain-top excursions are the main reason people go there, isn't it? A trip to Jungfraujoch, the "top of Europe", is worth 2 days budget (160 SF, about 100$). Many other mountain tops will cost you a day budget. So plan your budget carefully.
I would suggest that you drop Spain this time, or make it a one-way trip, otherwise you'll have to travel back north.
