Hello! I'm preparing to go on a two-week trip to Europe with my husband in less than a week. We're preparing our lists for packing and figuring out which bags are best to take. For our flight from Minneapolis to Amsterdam, we both have travel bags that we wanted to take as carry-ons, to avoid checking any of our luggage. However, my parents warned us that they'll want to search any bags we take as carry-ons, so it would be better to check anything we don't need on the flight. We've also going to fly a couple of times within Europe--from Rotterdam to Stockholm on Basiq Air and from Stockholm to Paris on Ryan Air. I would imagine that there won't be as much room for carry-ons on these airlines. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Take a look at the restrictions. Ryanair has recently liberalized their carryon rules. I'm not sure what Basiqair's rules are.
You don't have to worry about having your carryons searched - that can happen regardless. I did not get subjected to any special searches on the last few flights that I did carryon only. However, I knew beforehand that I couldn't bring things like nail scissors. Look for a list online of what you can't take on.
The advantage of going carryon only is that you don't have to wait around for your luggage and there is no chance of it being lost and there is no chance of anything being stolen. The risk of the last two are small but they're not non-existent. And it's just nice to be able to walk off the plane and not worry about your luggage showing up.
You should be able to do fine with <10 kg + a purse/travel bag (which is counted as a personal item, not a carryon).
