I always take my DL...even though I've never used it for driving. Many places, in fact most, if you use say an audio guide or such want an ID to hold while you have it. I just leave my DL and it works fine. I HATE to leave my passport anywhere that I can possibly avoid doing so.
Knock on wood, I have never needed my insurance while overseas, but I take that card along too...just in case.

It depends, you'll have to phone and see. I'm not sure how it works in Quebec. I'm thinking your provincial one won't cover anything but if you have anything else, like something through work, that's what usually covers out of country expenses.
To be safe, I always get travel medical insurance. It's about $1 something a day, so it's well worth it.

Is that the Bon Voyage (I think that's what it's called) plan? They have a few different plans in case I don't want to insure my baggage and tickets right? Going to book my flight tonight!! I'm so excited

Hello,
Don't you oversea-people need a real [glow=red,2,300]passport[/glow] to get back to Canada or the US? I mean, you can travel freely in Europe with just a ID-card but is that enough to get back? I read once that you need to be take [glow=red,2,300]fingerprints[/glow] to get a flight in the US?

Why the formatting? US and Canadian citizens do need to carry a full passport with them for immigration purposes, as do EU citizens in the US/Canada. It's worth carrying another ID though, as it saves carrying your passport on you.
As part of US immigration your fingerprints are taken by an electronic reader. It's no big deal and adds hardly any time to the process - if anything it's a good thing, tighter borders are in everyone's interests.

Well of course we have to have a 'real' passport, I believe the question was whether or not an 'additional' form of ID might be good to have.
And you can travel 'freely' in the US and Canada as well...once you enter, with your 'real' passport. Our 'borders' have always been free and open between states and provinces.
And yep...these days you will have your fingerprints taken, and more and more a pupil scan. And you will have to take off your shoes and the list of things you can not take with you grows every day it seems.
In bits and starts I know, but we are much more serious about security these days. There is sort of a reason for it these past few years.
Have enjoyed your posts...hope you will continue to visit here. But please don't make rash statements about we 'overseas' people...remember, to us, YOU are the overseas person! ;D
