has anyone travelled extensively around greece? Is it a fairly easy place to negotiate on your own, much english etc. Is it expensive, ferry crossings etc, and anyone made it up to meteora? Im planning a trip there and not sure how to go about it or what to expect. thanks in advance! ;D

I have been to some of the islands and Athens and didn't have a problem with the language. Might be more difficult in more remote places though.
Ferry crossings aren't that bad as far as price, it depends on where you are going and from where.
The transportation system (the train etc.) in Greece is supposedly a bit of a joke but we found the ferries and hydrofoils to be no problem.
Once you are there, accommodation is very reasonable. If you go to any of the main islands, your ferry will be met with hordes of people trying to get you to stay with them. You can barter. Make sure to find out the location, you don't want to be way out unless you are planning on renting a car.

Greece is the all-European country (this term is to exclude Turkey) closest to my home, but I have yet to visit any of it...
However, from what I've been told and read, it's inexpensive in comparison to Western Europe, but prices are on the rise... It gets cheaper if you avoid the major tourist destinations... the "household name" islands are the most expensive... If you travel outside the high season in summer, prices are much lower.

Hi, is ferry the "best" way to get from greece to italy? HOw quick are the ferries? Looks like many of them take several hours, which we're not really wanting to do, however, are there any ferries that are quicker?? How about air travel between the two countries, sea planes, etc. thanks for any advice
