Portugal: Lagos vs. Faro

I am planning to visit Portugal this summer and I'm having trouble deciding where to go.
Does anyone have any advice on wether to go to Lagos or Faro?

Also, has anyone been to Coimbra or Evora, and was it worth it?  How many days would you spend in these cities?

I could pretty well sum up Faro in the summer as hell on earth. Blazing hot, nothing there. We found a mall that had a/c and that was the highlight. Definately a miss.  

Lagos. Touristy but great fun. Gorgeous beaches, fun little bars, nice scenery. Not neccessarily the "real" Portugal but a great time.

Evora is the only place you've listed where i've been.  it was a stop for a few hours.  we checked out the monestary there - it was worth the stop!  but, i wouldn't have wanted to spend the night.  rick steves seems to have like the university culture in coimbra
