Just found out that it'll be Bastille Day when I'm in Paris (July 13 - 16)! Parades, fireworks planned. Did not plan on this! Wonder if it'll be too crazy in the city? Two weeks backpacking with my daughter, now wonder if we should get out of Paris and do someplace else for these days? Any thoughts? I have already booked the hostel, because I freaked out that it was so hard to find a place that wasn't already booked - now I know why!!! But I can always cancel .....

Too crazy???
Festivals are usually fun... why should you stay away? Besides, it's a national festival, so there are celebrations all over France... Bastille day (July 14) is for France what 4th of July is for USA... and in honour of the site's owner I should add 1st of July for Canada...

Well, it's likely to be a bit more crowded...if that is possible in July ;D.....and prices may be inflated some.....but personally I couldn't imagine a better time! What more glorious time to be in a country's capital than on it's antional holiday??
Lucky you!

There are high season prices in mid-July anyway, so I don't think they'll get even higher... It was a good idea to make reservations early, even though this is REALLY early! Paris has big supply of accomodation around the year, and it's not a case of a small town that attracts thousands of tourists for an annual festival and has no rooms for them (for example: Pamplona and "running with the bulls"), and the few hotel rooms that exist are sold out quickly at 3 times the normal price...

I'd still look for prices, especially food/drink etc to be a bit higher even than high season July. I've never been anywhere that a 'festival' did not raise prices at least a little.
