Ive never been to Europe, so this will be a first for me. All the planning has been decently overwhelming, so Im hoping you guys can help with some of the decision making. During the month of May/June (Depends on work), I will be taking a 3 week backpacking trip starting at Londen (By far the cheapest ticket I have found), now, I dont care if I return from there, hell, if you know something I dont, I dont care if I even really start from there. I do really wish to see France and Italy, and wouldnt mind hitting Amsterdam. Im looking forward to the history but also the comeraderie, so keep that in mind. Therefore, what itenerary would suit me best? What should I not miss? I hope on going back every year hopefully from here on, but who knows really.... ;D

Flying into one place and out of another is the most conveniet way to go, although the ticket might be a bit more expensive. If those are the countries you are interested in, then it would make sense to fly into London then go Amsterdam, France then Italy and fly home from Italy. It's a long ways to backtrack from Italy to London. Here's another option-fly in and out of London then fly from Milan back to London using Easyjet-it will cost you about 39 Euros plus tax. This is probably going to be the cheapest. www.easyjet.com/What you want to do is talk to your travel agent and get quotes on a round trip from London as well as flying into London and out of Italy. I think you will find it will be cheaper to fly in and out of London then use Easyjet to get back to London. If you are looking for comeraderie, then definately stay in hostels-in dorms. Private rooms in hostels and in hotels tend to isolate you. It's fine for couples, but if you are interested in meeting people, dorms are the best (and cheapest!) way to go. Once you have more of a plan, we can all recommend some good hostels for you. Kim

You can also fly cheaply to other places in Italy, in particular Venice, Rome or Napoli. I've seen air fares cheaper than 39 Euro. There are cheap flights from London to almost anywhere in Europe. Even so, an open jaw ticket will avoid the need to backtrack to London and would worth the extra cost.

What about this iternirary: Chicago to London to Amsterdam to Brussels to Paris to Bern/Geneva to Milan to Venice to Florence to Rome to Chicago
I realize that this is probably way to many to fit in a 21 day spirt. Which should i leave out? Are there any spots I should add?

9 stops in 21 days is definitely too much. Giant cities like London, Paris, Rome need at least 3 days, especially if you're looking for history... The places I would leave out of your list are Brussels and Milan, and I would go to Interlaken in Switzerlaken for Alpine scenery and comeraderie instead of Bern or Geneva.
